Institution Description
The Fundação da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FFCUL) is a nonprofit organization recently reclassified as a public institution. FFCUL was created in 1993 as an initiative of the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) to promote and facilitate scientific research, technology and development services to society, and to organize qualified human resources training and consulting expertise and knowledge dissemination. FFCUL acts as the contractual and administrative authority on behalf of scientific research units or organizations and their investigators. All the research and services are carried out by research units’ staff or by staff contracted by FFCUL strictly on their behalf. The largest FFCUL clients are associated to FCUL research units but FFCUL can also support directly other universities and laboratories. Many of R&D activities are developed with international teams and with both international and national funding. Currently, FFCUL manages over 400 projects and implements a professional (and constantly audited) management of around 20 research centers, in the fields of Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research, Physics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Space, Astronomy, Biology, Computer Science and Informatics, Education Sciences and Philosophy and History of Sciences.
